A new book honouring the UK punk band Fat White Family has been released in the limited-edition photography book Fat White Family: Pictures For Our Mothers. The unique book chronicles the ultra rebellious lives led by the band between 2015 to 2018.
Fat White Family are among the last and coolest of Britain’s punk bands, a loud rock ‘n’ roll group so vulgar they cannot be ignored. They’ve altered the frequency of the late David Letterman Show and, recently, Liam Gallagher chose them to support him at his recent series of 2022 Knebworth gigs. They have played everywhere from Glastonbury and Coachella, to Reading and Lattitude.
The photos in the book, taken by Andrew Zappin and Duncan Stafford, recount some of the wild adventures that the band have encountered. These include an impromptu song-writing session with Fat White Family mega fan Lady Gaga in New York City, the band getting lost in Montana, and Cynthia ‘Plaster Caster’ making a penis mould of band member Lias Saoudi.
“Things will never be the same now their foul-mouthed eulogies and sordid behaviour have contaminated the young and the wise alike with their beautiful Rock n Roll. This book makes me wanna go on a yoga retreat.”
Larry Love (Alabama 3)
“The new book starts with photographs of rippling, angular guitar shots, bare chests, and bizarre colours that fill the pages with images screaming, stirring unbridled crazy sound. But it is in part two where it seems the road takes its toll with photographs in grim bars, deadbeat motels and sensitive portraits unfurling reflection between gigs. The book’s flow brings the viewer into a rattling, wild profoundness that recalls the Chelsea Hotel mob shows of the 1970’s.”
