“OK Zoomer” is Finlay’s defence of a generation, one that has been handed the broken remnants of a once healthy planet Earth and they’re being forced to pick up the pieces, the only roadblock? They don’t seem to care.
Finlay Christie’s Fringe debut is all about being a voice for the voiceless, Gen Z. Not voiceless in the sense there is no way for this generation to communicate, but rather that no one wants to listen.
With so many comics and critics bashing the new generation for being “woke”, being on their phones too much or for complaining about how unfair everything is, Finlay Christie is trying to set the record straight, and his analysis of the trappings of modern life will leave you in stitches.
Finlay is one to watch in comedy at the moment, and his hilariously nonchalant approach to growing old, being present and having fun is emblematic of a generation who are faced with the challenge of saving the world. But it’s not all doom and gloom, “OK Zoomer” is based on dispelling the myths that young people can’t take a joke, and comedy written by a Gen Z person, with that generational outlook on life, brings a fresh new perspective to the Fringe this year.
His comedy skills began to take shape when he was just seven years old, and though it’s fair to say his material has improved since then, he has a presence on stage where you can feel he’s been doing this for a long time.
The show is an absolute must-see for young people who feel as though the world is against them. With few young comics who can put on a show with such confidence, Finlay Christie’s “OK Zoomer” is a show you need to see at the Fringe this year, even if you’re not Gen Z. After all, the show is about defending Gen Z to the Boomers and the Millennials, who knows? Maybe the show will make you retire the term “snowflake”, and realise we’re not all so different.
