There are two things that become immediately apparent when you meet Liam Farrelly, he’s very Glaswegian and he’s really not a fan of the Catholic church. Unfortunately for him, his sister’s a nun, but really Farrelly cannot complain too much because the covenant has been the source for some absolute comedy gold.

His material about growing up in Glasgow, how he lost his virginity and being a young dad are all fairly simple topics but the way he skilfully and hilariously delivers these jokes leaves the room in stitches. While still being a youthful 21, Farrelly commands the stage like a seasoned veteran with a genuinely hilarious script and fantastic off the cuff remarks to the audience.

As is the title, his best work comes when discussing the religious divide within his own family. Having God as a brother is cool and all until you need to deal with all the other siblings. Farrelly grew up going to Catholic youth clubs where he quickly realised that it wasn’t for him, but what he saw there he relays to us in a seriously funny manner.

‘God’s Brother-in-Law’ is a really solid stand up show. However, since performing it, Farrelly has been at the centre of some controversy surrounding his comments about the church. They have essentially been trying to cancel him, but Farrelly takes it in his stride and manages to turn this potentially harmful experience into some of the greatest lines in his whole act. The way they have gone about this is not to protest but to leave bad reviews on Farrelly’s shows. So just know that if you see one of these claiming this man is anything short of a great comedian then just know it’s daft propaganda.

Farrelly is undoubtably one for the future and he’s already well on his way. If you like the sound of Farrelly’s enjoyable style then go and support him, he’s got a kid after all.
