Ella McCready released her debut EP ‘Breathe’, establishing a space for herself in the industry as a highly powerful vocalist and songwriter. This EP sees Ella steer away from some of the upbeat pop numbers that her seven earlier releases have been, and toward her true musical roots.
‘Breathe’ was co-written by Ella and UK-based musician Jacob Stoney, and co-produced by Stoney and an LA-based producer Jeremy Rompala. A magical product was created by these three artists. Through each track, Ella writes about ‘offering her soul up’ when she releases new music and asks for the listener to ‘hold it gently’.
The lead single from the EP is ‘I Choose You’, the song that captures the emotion of the whole EP and utilises Ella’s authentic, powerful vocals.
“‘I Choose You’ actually helped me make one of the biggest decisions I’ve had to make in the last year. I had been through a messy and difficult break up that had been entirely instigated by a man I was very much in love with. A month had gone by and then he’d come back in to my life asking for a second chance. I walked in to a writing session knowing that what I walked out with would be a song about him, but not knowing whether it would be positive or negative. I think the extremely uplifting nature of this track says it all – ‘I choose to love and not to hate'”.
