Welsh charisma is out in force with the HMS Morris gig at The Great Escape in Brighton. The set starts with a kick into the bands fun and grabby music, but the winner is the cheeky track “Balls”. This fun, bass-filled tune from their most recent album has a catchy chorus, great guitar action, and well sung vocals. This is all tied together by a wonderfully charismatic performance from singer Heledd Watkins.
It’s great to see young performers so confidently on stage, and the maturity shines through when it comes to interacting with the crowd. The four piece, whose set consisted of songs in English and Welsh, have a self-described “Pop-metal” sound, and it translates nicely on stage.
Sets like these remind me exactly why The Great Escape is so fun – you get to see great performers play great music.
