Faux Real
Faux Real are a two-piece machine – playing synthy indie music with a heavy splash of 80’s influence. They run about the stage in all white and perform a slew of choreographed dance routines and are as eccentric as it comes. The music is just as fun as they are.
The Great Escape, Patterns Upstairs
Rum Jungle
The Australian four piece are twenty per cent shaggy hair, twenty per cent moustache, ten per cent baseball cap, and a hundred per cent talent coming out of Australia. They have a fresh Wombats-esque sound with a splash of The Strokes mixed in. A great show full of fun and charisma.
Emileo
Emileo has a powerful and sing-song voice that carries well through the room. She says “I would like to take us on a trip”, reaches towards the deck and starts to play a trance like song with a recorded speech going on in the background, a woman speaking about the miracle of birth and motherhood. The song is bass filled and electronic – and the lyrics are all about a baby that Emileo birthed in a dream. It is catchy, the bass drop was naughty and fun. It makes me want to see what else Emileo has up her sleeve.

Asha Jefferies
Australian Asha Jefferies shows a winning hand of cards in her gig at The Great Escape. Her debut album tracks are fun, sincere, and diverse. Alongside a talented band, Asha’s great voice shone through lyrics about “being really gay” and finally gaining confidence in her body.
Her band share laughs and smiles during the set and their energy makes you feel you were just as in on the joke as they were. The group all seem to have a genuine connection to the music, which is always great to see.
I can’t imagine this will be last we see of Asha and her band. Great talent, and great fun. Four stars.
