The Tina Fey written musical Mean Girls has its West End Gala opening on June 26 at the Savoy Theatre.
Based on the Mark Waters film of 2004 the musical focuses on Cady Heron and her quest to join the ‘plastics’ a group of super mean alpha females who rule the roost at North Shore High.
The show was due to open in London in 2021 but was postponed by the Covid epidemic.
Charlie Burn (Les Miserables) will play Cady Heron, with Georgina Castle, Elèna Gyasi and Grace Mouat as the Plastics.
The composer is Jeff Richards (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyrics are by Neil Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and the director and choreographer is Casey Nicholaw (Book of Mormon.)
The show originally ran on Broadway where it was nominated for 12 Tony Awards before being closed due to the pandemic. Theatre goers in London are promised: ” iconic characters, razor-sharp wit, and killer songs.”
