Winner of this year’s Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow award. Susie McCabe is a star of Scottish comedy. A former electrician Susie McCabe is born to be on stage – and you can tell how much she loves it.
Tell us about your show. Why should we go and see it?
It’s a show everyone can relate to and is filled with nonsense and laughs but also has a very strong point.
What makes you laugh?
Anything really – I laugh at daftness and silliness and I can laugh at darker stuff
How do you describe your performance style?
Storytelling raconteur – I love telling a story that’s packed with jokes and going on a wee journey with the audience
Do you have nerves about going on stage and how do you cope with them?
Yes, however I refer to it as adrenaline – you need it, you need that buzz that’s why we do this job .
What’s your idea of a perfect Fringe feast and where will you eat it?
I go to Red Box and live off of chicken noodle soup and chicken wings.
All the protein .
How will your audience think/feel differently after an hour in your company?
I would like to think they know me a bit better, they are happy and they know they have laughed .
When did you first realise you were born to be on stage?
The first time I ever done stand up I realised this was the job for me. It was Jan 18 2011
Why do you think Edinburgh Fringe is so important to performers and artists around the world?
It’s such a bench mark for so many to get there even just once as it’s world renowned and people/performers want that experience and to say they have done it
How do you plan to relax and enjoy the city when you’re not performing?
By living in Glasgow and commuting to Edinburgh
Who is your showbiz idol and why?
Billy Connolly, a man who has never compromised. Or punched down .
What is your idea of a perfect Fringe moment?
Sometimes you get those gigs that are just special you can feel the crackle in the room before you walk out .
I love that, hearing the audience singing to the music playing and you walk out to that cheer .
What a feeling and to know they are there for you .
I am so very lucky.
