Can you sum up the Edinburgh Fringe in 100 cartoons? Paul Levy has given it a very good go.
As the editor of Fringe Review, a publication where all the reviewers are also theatre makers, Levy has been coming to the Fringe since 2006.
His book, Fringe Wisdom, covers the experience of the Edinburgh Fringe from a multitude of different angles, with practical advice on preparation, flyering and the emotional rollercoaster of the Fringe marathon.
There are in jokes – and subtle reminders to reviewers not to become megalomaniacal and performers not to become too self-obsessed.
Each cartoon is accompanied by an explanation, which includes some tremendously useful insight.
This is a book that reminds us that there are wide open spaces outside the city and a multitude of stars in the sky. More than anything it imparts perspective – which is wisdom – in the all-absorbing atmosphere of Edinburgh in August.
There is even a section about what to do in September.
