Songs from Primal Scream, Simple Minds, Texas, The Bluebells and more are a key part of Glasgow Kiss – a new jukebox musical looking back at the music of the eighties and nineties.

Scottish actor Andrew Agnew said he couldn’t wait to get involved in the new musical – which opens at the Pavilion in September.

“There is so much wonderful talent in Scotland, we are so lucky to have all of them. Band wise, Deacon Blue is a big favourite of mine…. I’ve always loved their sound. Texas are superb… I definitely love Annie Lennox, Jimmy Somerville and Michelle McManus.

“Wet Wet Wet were my childhood. I knew almost every word.”

Agnew, a two time BAFTA award winner best known as PC Plum in CBeebies Balamory, plays the part of music industry figure Tony, in a cast that includes Stephen Arden, Lorraine Graham, Ellen Jackson, James McAnerney and Valissa Scott.

The action follows James (Arden) who returns to Glasgow after 20 years for a funeral and reunites with friends he used to hang out with at the famous Barrowlands. The soundtrack celebrates the rich musical culture of Glasgow and the place which was the setting to their youth, first loves and friendships.

“The story grows in lots of directions and includes many colourful Glasgow characters that, with this great script, will keep you laughing, dancing and even shedding a wee tear,” says Agnew.

“When I saw the list of Glasgow bands that were to be included, I knew I wanted to be involved,” he says. “And having worked in the glorious Pavilion Theatre a few times before I knew it was going to be something special.”

Glasgow Kiss is at The Pavilion Theatre from September 30 – October 5
