Everybody’s favourite housewife superstar Barbara Nice is off on tour – kicking off with a gig in York on September 15 and winding up in Brighton on December 5.
It’s the first time the hilarious Babs has hit the road since reaching the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2019. Here she shares a few tips for her audience – wear leopard-skin, enjoy the opportunity to leave the house and be prepared to have a good time.
What have you been up to since your last tour back in 2019?
This is my first time out on my own for a while, but I’ve been gigging at comedy clubs up and down the country. The audiences were enjoying those gigs, and I fancied getting back out there and seeing how people are getting on.
What prompted you to tour again?
It feels like a good time to get out there again – I want to make the most of still being able to get off the sofa!
Plus, as a WASPI woman (Women Against State Pension Equality) I can’t get my pension, so I need to keep working. Especially now that the receivers for the Betterware catalogue are closing in on me about a few non-payment issues involving a microfibre duster designed to look like a ladybird. And a crystal pineapple ornament…
I had a bit of a Betterware problem, it started out all nice and innocent with a microwave bacon crisper, then I got a bit carried away and got some LED shoe lights for Ken’s slippers so I could keep track of him at bedtime, then things got out of hand, and before I knew it my kitchen windows were covered in fruit print decorative fly paper and I was handing out crystal pineapples like they were toffees.
So, I understand how those Oasis lads are feeling about going back out on tour, sometimes you just need to earn a couple of extra quid don’t you?
What’s your favourite thing about being on tour?
Getting out of the house and not having to cook tea! It’s always nice to get out and about, and to go to different shops and pick up a bargain.
I’m looking forward to seeing people and changing rooms that I’ve not seen for a while. It’s always nice to see if there’s an ironing board in your dressing room – a decent ironing board is the sign of a good dressing room. Things do get creased when you’re on the road, and if there’s no ironing board you have to use a hot air hand dryer to get the creases out – it does at a push, but it’s no substitute for running over your blouse with a steam iron is it? It’s even worse if there’s no hot air hand dryer – or if it’s one of those fancy slimline ones you have to stick your hands in – then you have so stand next to a radiator in a rumpled frock and hope for the best.
What can audiences expect from the show?
They’ll get to have a good laugh and to feel part of something, and to hopefully come away feeling better than when they went in.
The show’s all about having fun, having a laugh and – if you feel like it – getting up and having a bit of a dance about.
I was thinking about Taylor Swift and her Swifties and how they all got dressed up as her at different stages in her career, and if any of my Niceys want to do that it would be piggin’ lovely. They could come dressed as me; Vera, my next-door neighbour; or Jean and Jean from Hebden Bridge – heck they could even dress up as Ken, my husband!
One little tip for any Niceys planning to dress as me – remember it’s all about the animal prints; animal prints are my favourite colour after black.
