With the light and airy colour palette Thorntons uses to hint at its fudge and toffee origins over a century ago, this year’s advent calendar for grown ups conjures a snow scene with speciality chocolates nestling in the white dunes. These are, of course, some of the chocolates that will be found behind the countdown cardboard doors, whetting taste appetites along with the handy choc-menu on the back of the box.

There are 12 different chocolates in all to be found, five each from Thornton’s Continental and Classic ranges and two from the Pearls range, mixing up your Amaretti Crisp with a Gooey Caramel and giving any chocolate fan a chance to discover a new favourite en route to Christmas Day.

If this seems a bit rich for the kiddies never fear, as there’s also a friendly Father Christmas Advent Calendar available that can be personalised with your little one’s name, and with smaller kid-sized milk chocolates Christmas shapes.
