Seafarers, the six piece ensemble fronted by Scottish saxophonist and songwriter Matthew Herd are releasing a fresh new album ‘Another State’.
Spanning the worlds of indie rock, chamber pop and jazz the album, recorded at the iconic Real World Studios, near Bath, combines the talents of six outstanding musicians.
Irish vocalist and improviser Lauren Kinsella, co-lead of Snowpoet, and currently based between London and Dublin, carries the evocative female lead, alongside Herd.
On lead guitar, acoustic guitar and base is Arun Thavasothy, one of the most intriguing new talents on the London music scene. Alongside him, also on guitar and base is Tom McCredie, known for his intricate musicianship and acclaimed for his parallel project Tel Trio.
Drums are from Dave Hamblett, a go to drummer for everyone from indie pop to jazz and fresh from his own debut album Light by Night. And on piano is Tom Taylor, acclaimed for his intimate improvisations and compositions.
The album Another State, out October 4, is the third for these outstanding musicians, whose collaboration lends various perspectives and observations. The ten track collection follows ‘Orlando’, of 2020, which was inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name and intriguingly named follow up II, released in 2021,
As long term musical collaborators Seafarers stun with their ability to play together with cohesion, clarity and creativity. Drawing on a wide range of influences and styles Herd, Taylor and Kinsella have been making music together since 2013, when they met while studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Seafarers have been praised for their extraordinary arrangements and tender, elegant and resonant sound. ‘Another State’ is keenly anticipated by fans of their evocative blend of styles and overwhelming profusion of musical talent.
