Irish artist Shobsy has just released his first UK single ‘Champagne’, the song captures the feeling of night turning into morning and the euphoric pull of one more drink to keep the party going – it’s a love letter to the art of celebration.

Shobsy tells his musical story to Entertainment Now.

How did your musical project first start? Is there a story to tell about it?

I was in a band for a few years after I left school called ‘State Lights’. When covid came the band kind of naturally came to an end and then I set my sights on going solo, and that is the ‘Shobsy’ project!

What was your first gig?

I played my first gig in a pub called ‘Larkins’ in the countryside of Ireland in a place called Tipperary I think I was around 14!

How has your music/live performances been received by fans?

It’s been pretty incredible, I’vd had some pretty incredible opportunities so far and such incredible support from early fans.

What three words best describe your musical style and why?

Unpredictable. Classic. Poppy. I regularly like to hop from genre to genre. I’d ideally love to never be tied down to one thing.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

U2. Bowie. Queen. Elvis.

Tell us about your new release.

‘Champagne’ is a song about late nights becoming early mornings. It’s about how that perfect glass of champagne can give you a second wind and make you never want to go to bed, and the consequences that come from that.

What inspires your lyrics?

When I was younger I found myself gravitating toward quite serious subject matters, which I still do. However, I have recently fallen in love with writing songs about simple concepts like…’Champagne’. Whilst always Finding an interesting and perhaps darker side.

How do you hope listeners will feel after hearing your music.

Well each song is different. But with ‘Champagne’ I tapped into and tried to understand my own
wildness. I wanted listeners to feel the same, I wanted the song to make them cancel their uber
home and go searching for some madness in the night

Do you have any upcoming tour dates?

I play a sold out show in Dublins Academy on Nov 15th. Looking forward to getting some UK dates soon!

What are you working on next?
I have many releases coming in 2025…am working super hard on them to make them the best
work I’ve done.
