Multi instrumentalist and DJ Tropez has released a video of his new song Thinkin Bout You directed by Christopher Hill. ‘It’s a vibe’ he tells Entertainment Now.
How did your musical project first start?
I’ve always been writing and producing but mostly in the background of projects. After leaving the last touring act I played with the solo project happened basically out of necessity to create.
Is there a story to tell about it?
There is a story about sourcing Ben Allen to produce. Back when I started Tropez I made a list of 10 producers to record the album with. This was pre-covid and i put Ben on the top of the list. I had released a couple instrumental albums under the moniker “RNDZVS” and had been working on Tropez demos when I got a response back from Ben. Ben was my number one choice and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to work with him.
What was your first gig?
As Tropez I have yet to play a live show.
How have your music/live performances been received by fans?
The response to the music so far has been outstanding. As my outreach grows I see more responses consistently. It’s fun to see a different demographic for each single. Even if it’s just one song the audience latches onto it truly feels gratifying to get good reviews.
What three words best describe your musical style and why?
“It’s a vibe”, I think that’s self explanatory
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Too many to list. I grew up on Elvis and Motown. I’ve played in rock bands, indie rock, pop, and hip hop groups. I’ve opened for a wide variety of artists from Lifehouse to Ice Cube. I don’t put a boundary on what influences me so I can really jump around from one genre to another. I will say that the one album I can always listen to from front to back (preferably on vinyl) is Dark Side of the Moon. More recently I’ve been revisiting big beat in the 90s and bands like Massive Attack, Zero 7, air.
Tell us about your new release.
‘Thinkin Bout You’ was inspired by the idea of uploading the consciousness of a lost loved one or an unattainable relationship.
How do you hope listeners will feel after hearing your music?
I really aim for the listener to interpret their own meaning to my songs.
What are you working on next?
I have a song I’m finishing for Radiooooo’s 2070 project coming up. I also have some topline work with Modern Living (Dj and producer James Curd’s new project) and another song with the up and coming Norwegian producer Tollef.
