Blending retro soul with modern R&B and armed with a four-octave range, EMEREE is one of NME’s Top 100 Artists to Watch in 2025. With over 50 million streams as a producer and songwriter, the self-producing powerhouse returns with “Spring Cleaning” a bold, soulful anthem of healing and rebirth. As she gears up for international stages and a dream collaboration with Nile Rodgers, EMEREE talks musical evolution, emotional storytelling, and finding power behind the board.
- Your sound blends modern RnB with classic soul. How did your style evolve into what it is today?
My sound has come from my experience in production and the music that I love listening to. I just love retro soul and 50’s influence but I also love modern production and the tools we have at our fingertips now.
- You’re a self-producing artist with a four-octave range — where do you feel most at home: behind the mic or behind the board?
Behind the board for SURE. I adore singing but nothing makes me come alive more than getting to produce.
- Your lyrics often explore female empowerment and sexual identity. Are there certain stories you feel most called to tell through your music?
I very much write introspectively, and my writing helps me to grow and understand my emotions. I think my story evolves with my writing.
- As a producer and artist, how do you shift gears when creating for others versus your own work?
Every session is different, and I am so careful to treat it as such. It’s SO important to make sure that I am working towards the artist’s vision so I always make sure I’m serving the song first, and myself last.
- You’re set to work with Nile Rodgers — what can you share about that upcoming collaboration?
Not a lot yet haha! But I’m very very excited to get into it!
- Your music draws comparisons to artists like RAYE and Cleo Sol. How do you stay authentic while carving out your own lane?
I think by being a producer I have a lot of control sonically over my work which helps me to be unique whilst nodding to other artists that I adore.
- What do you hope listeners feel or take away after hearing an EMEREE track?
Whatever they resonate with my track is fine with me. I try not to think outwardly whilst writing and just make sure I’m making something true and real.
- What’s next — any upcoming releases or projects you’re excited to share?
I have more coming VERY VERY soon and I can’t wait to share. Be prepared for the songs to get more unhinged.
