Pretty Woman – Savoy Theatre London.
Firstly, I love the Savoy Theatre having seen Dreamgirls there a few years back – intimate luxury with very comfy seats. I had seen the US production of Pretty Woman with music by the legendary Bryan Adams and starring Samantha Barks, which was very impressive, and I was keen to see the UK version.
The leading lady playing Vivian is Aimie Atkinson, who managed to top her US counter-part by a country mile, performing her as the sassy true-to-the-part character seen on the big screen from Julia Roberts. Aimie’s voice is incredible and has acting skills to match – prior to this she was an original cast member in Six and now is a West End super star in the making.
The day I saw the show there were 15 cast members off, but you would never have known it. The understudy to Danny Mac, John Addison, stepped in to play the role of Edward doing a really good job. The chemistry was there between them for sure which shows what true professionals they are. The whole production and ensemble were truly brilliant with a special shout out to Rachael Wooding who plays Vivienne’s best friend Kit– what chops she has…
A masterful transfer to the West End… what can I say … Huge…. A must see.
