Tony Law has been delighting Fringe audiences for years with his wild, surreal flights of fancy and his disconcerting charm.
He gave Entertainment Now an insight into his Fringe philosophy.
Tell us about your show. Why should we go and see it?
I go up with about three or four new bits then improvise a show. By the second day we have a show. That’ll evolve and change but by show two it’ll be a show. Though show one is glorious chaos. Some people like to come twice. Once at the beginning and once at the end.
What is your favourite thing about your show?
It’s exciting to see what it ends up about. I suspect a lot about cats from this far out.
Do you have a Fringe idol?
Sean Lock!
What three words best describe your performance style – and why?
Surreal, silly, absurd, and chaotic. Because it’s all those things.
Who are you looking forward to seeing in Edinburgh?
Phil Nichol
What do you hope to achieve in Edinburgh – what are your hopes and dreams?
To sell out and make my little fan base happy they got some tip top Tonezone.
What are the biggest obstacles you face as a performer at the Fringe?
Accommodation prices.
What do you hope the audience will take away after an hour in your company?
Some joy. Shaking their heads and the silliness of it all.
How do you plan to relax and recharge when not on stage?
Walking outdoors up or down or along some nature.
What is your idea of a perfect Fringe day?
Great show. Someone else’s show then back to the caravan to get the one hour of sun.
