Bella Hull wants everyone to know something… she’s not crazy! However, I don’t know if her fringe show does the best at proving this. Bella’s delusions, sarcastic humour, and her strange and vast imagination make for a very refreshing comedy show.
Bella projects every corner of her brain during the hour, future kids on a School Parents’ Day, and how she would handle a rant at the teacher, what sexuality she would be as a mouse, and something we are all guilty of: replaying all the most embarrassing moments in your life when you are trying to sleep.
Bella is bouncing back after a mundane four-year relationship in search of something better. Only to find an “apocalypse” instead. However, now that she is single, it seems she has a lot of time to dedicate to her imagination.
As you get deeper into the show, Bella gets deeper into her beliefs. Astrology, colour reading and fortune tellers are just a few examples. I literally can’t imagine another field of sorcery, but if it exists, I’m sure Bella will find it soon.
As the show ends and Bella has spilt out every thought, story or experience she has ever faced, she disappears off stage as an audience member aggressively devours her ex-boyfriend reincarnated as an easy-peeler tangerine. Bella is truly hilarious; her unusual laugh adds to her madness, which there is much of, but one of the maddest parts is waiting for you at the end. When Bella reappears to conclude her show, she comes back wearing a little more, or technically a little less. It is practically impossible to explain what she’s styling. I think Bella Hull’s type of humour could be the future of comedy, certainly for Gen Z, and I encourage you to see Bella Hull for yourself, not just for the bizarre ending.
