Christopher Macarthur-Boyd: Scary Times – Review

Christopher Macarthur-Boyd is a brilliantly funny comedian with a wonderfully Scottish sarcasm. Boasting a fully sold out run with extra shows added I had high expectations, these expectations were without a doubt exceeded.

Over the past few years Macarthur-Boyd has really created a name for himself in the Scottish comedy scene especially at the Fringe and this show is a real testament to his reputation. He uses his hour to discuss his controversial love for Edinburgh as a Glaswegian, alongside some other stories from lockdown and other scary times.

As a self-realised specky guy, whether the glasses are on or not, Macarthur-Boyd pokes fun at himself throughout and gladly admits some stupid decisions he’s made over the past few years. His seamless transitions from story to story and hilarious recall are consistent throughout and have the audience howling with laughter for his entire hour.

Macarthur-Boyd has a wonderfully geeky charm and unbeatable presence that sets him apart from the rest and makes him truly delightful to watch. His self-awareness and quippy insights make him so likeable and provide him with spectacular content. An absolutely underrated part of Macarthur-Boyds comedy are his fabulous impressions, although they are typically short but sweet he’s got a real knack for accents and impressions that add even more laughs to his jokes.

Macarthur-Boyd is nearing the top of his game and has major worldwide household name potential. A delightfully funny guy and a real treat of a show. This is 100 per cent a name to watch.
