Ira Glass

Award-winning journalist and radio presenter Ira Glass, storyteller extraordinaire, has announced two new UK dates for 2022. The celebrated radio presenter will start with his rescheduled date at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 26th March then heads to the Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms on 27th and finally Chester’s Storyhouse on 29th.

“Mr. Glass is a journalist but also a storyteller who filters his interviews and impressions through a distinctive literary imagination, an eccentric intelligence, and a sympathetic heart.”

– The New York Times

Using audio clips, music, and video, he delivers a uniquely entertaining talk, sharing lessons from his life and career. What inspires him to create? What drives his passion? How have failures and successes informed his decisions? Ira Glass will mix stories live onstage and help his audience better follow the creative process of one of the world’s foremost storytellers.

“We live in a world where joy and empathy and pleasure are all around us, there for the noticing.”

– Ira Glass

As the creator, producer and host of This American Life, Glass is listened to by over 2.2 million people on more than 500 public radio stations, with another two and a half million downloading each podcast. Under his editorial direction, the show has won the highest honours for broadcasting and journalistic excellence, including six Peabody awards. In 1999, the American Journalism Review declared that This American Life was “in the vanguard of a journalistic revolution” and has inspired a wave of broadcast journalism, including
Radiolab, Invisibilia, StartUp, Reply All, Love + Radio and Heavyweight which build on the style of Glass and his staff.

The hit investigative podcast Serial is a spin-off from This American Life; Glass serves as its editorial advisor. He is also one of the editors of S-Town. Serial is listened to by 12 million people and S-Town, which won a Peabody Award, has been downloaded 77 million times.

From humble beginnings as a 19-year-old intern at National Public Radio’s network headquarters in Washington, DC in 1978, over the years Glass worked on nearly every NPR network news program and held virtually every production job in NPR’s Washington headquarters. He has been a tape cutter, newscast writer, desk assistant, editor, reporter and producer. This American Life debuted in 1995 and was adapted for television by Showtime. Glass also produced three feature films: Mike Birbiglia’s “Don’t Think Twice” and “Sleepwalk with Me,” and the Netflix movie “Come Sunday.” Glass was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in November 2014
