Lynn Ferguson: Driving up the Mound, bagpipe music blaring

Tell us about your show.    Why should we go and see it?

Lynn Ferguson’s Storyland. It’s about life the universe and everything.  I take you to the innermost corners of my hoover bag head, without you getting grubby.  It has jokes and stories.

People tell me it’s thought provoking. I’m still thinking about that.

Are you flying solo or are you part of a team?

Both. I’m doing a show and then I’m joined by guests. They’re all bloody impressive guests too. Every day is a fan girl moment.

My guests include: Kaye Adams, (August 20) Grant Stott, (21) Jack Doherty, (22) Clive Anderson,(23) Val McDermid, (24) Kirsty Wark, (25) Zoe Lyons, (26)Greg  Hemphill (27) and Ian Rankin (28)

What are your hopes and dreams for the Fringe?

To  get to bed before midnight one night before the end of August.

What makes you laugh?

Stupid stuff. Dad jokes. Dogs wearing hats.

What is it that made you a performer?

I went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama because my best pal Rachel was going. After I graduated, Kim Kinnie from the Comedy Store offered me 250 quid to do three minutes of stand up on an STV project called The Funny Farm.

That sealed the deal.

How will your audience think/feel differently after an hour in your company?

I hope they’ll feel that they matter. Sounds like a pile of pish, I know, but I genuinely do.

Whose show – apart from your own – are you looking forward to seeing at the Edinburgh Fringe?

I have already seen so many I’ve really liked.

The Homecoming Queen – Jeena Bloom

Buzzed – Maisie Adam

The Road to Ballina at the Gilded Balloon

Baxter Versus The Bookies

I’m totally up for surprises. That’s what Edinburgh is about for me

What’s the most useful piece of advice you’ve been given?

Expectations are just resentments under construction.

Do you have a favourite Fringe memory?

Malcolm Hardee and his dawn taxi rides. Driving up the mound, bagpipe music blaring while Malcolm handed out Jaffa cakes.

Who is your showbiz/Fringe idol and why.

Karen Koren obviously. I adore her.  She’s absolutely part of the make up of everything here, and has the biggest heart.  Also she’d shout at me if I didn’t say that.

Lynn Ferguson’s Storyland, 12.30, Gilded Balloon at the Museum, until August 28
