Hey there Max, how are you?

I’m very excited to have just been in London for the first time.

Welcome to the UK. What were you up to while you were here?

I was competing in the United Kingdom Championships 2022 in Coventry.

You are the world champion speedcuber. How did you get into Rubik’s Cubes?

I started when I was 9 or 10 years old. My mom taught me and then I learned much more from Youtube. I started competing in 2012.

Do you have any preference with the cubes?

I like all the cubes. 3×3 all the way up to 7×7. My current favorite is 6×6.

How do you prepare for a competition?

I play a lot of Plants vs. Zombies to relax away from cubing. Then I practice hard right before the competition weekend.

What inspires you and who are your influences?

Feliks Zemdegs and Tymone Kolisinski both inspire me.

You appeared in the Netflix documentary, The Speedcubers. Could you tell us about your experiences filming this?

It was funny and weird at first but then you kinda forget that the cameras are there. I didn’t mind it that much.

What’s next for you? What are you most excited about?

I am looking forward to the World Championships 2023 in South Korea. I have always wanted to visit there and to see my friend Nahm Seung Hyuk (Korean Speedcuber).

Max Park stars in the Netflix documentary The Speedcubers; the new Rubik’s Phantom is available at Smyth’s RRP £22.99.
