The fantastic ‘Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’ has announced its change of venue to the prestigious Cambridge Theatre, home to ‘Matilda the Musical’, from May 22 this year. The fabulously spontaneous musical is the first ever long-form improv show to have a complete West End run and to be nominated and win an Olivier Award.
“After a wonderful seven years at the Lyric, we are delighted to begin a new residency at the Cambridge Theatre. We can’t wait to make up dozens more brand-new spontaneous musicals right in the heart of the West End among all the shows that we know and love. Thanks for having us, LW Theatres!”Adam Meggido & Dylan Emery, Artistic Directors
Showstopper! is a musical performed live on the spot right from audience suggestions. The cast listen to suggestions from the audience for the setting and musical styles and turn them into storylines, hilarious characters and stunning song and dance numbers.
The audience also get to name that night’s show, which is added to The Showstoppers’ archive of more than 1,200 shows that they have performed since the show’s launch in 2008.
The show has been an absolute ‘must-see’ at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the past 13 years (about to be 14 as it returns to the Pleasance Grand this August). It had a West-End run in 2015 at The Apollo in Shaftesbury Avenue, for which it won its Olivier. In 2019 it also had a run at The Other Palace.
