Through drag and a panto style format we join our lead character in their quest to find love through the powers of a glass slipper. Accompanied by their version of the fairy godmother, aptly named the hairy godmother they take us on a silly and fun filled journey which will change your views of classic fairytale characters forever.
It’s not hard to understand why this show is 18+, if you thought Snow White living with seven dwarves was a little strange to begin with, wait till you find out what other interesting habits she has. We meet a number of the different fairy-tale characters throughout our adventure including Ariel, as she sings about some of the other things she has picked up from the human world… Changing the lyrics of classic songs in a funny and R rated way, we learn a lot more about these princesses than the original fairy tales care to tell us.
Alongside these jaw dropping moments there are actually some really important messages, learning about consent, why it’s actually really not okay to kiss a princess who is unconscious, true love or not! Along with a reminder to love yourself instead of looking for love elsewhere.
Although the groups of hen parties and day drinkers were having a wonderful time, I wished the show had been later on in the day. It would be a very fun and scandalous way to end your fringe night or to start your night off with a bang (no pun intended). This show might not be for everyone, maybe don’t go with your parents, but it’s a good laugh and sparks some interesting conversations.
