A new five storey cultural embassy named Palestine House is set to open in central London this summer.

The former language school in Holburn will be used as a venue for film screenings, talks, exhibitions, book launches, cooking courses and cultural events.

Work began three years ago to convert the building and organisers have now launched a crowd-funder to cover the final stages of construction.

Founder Osama Qashoo says: “Palestine House is the birth of a dream I had some 17 years ago as a young refugee when I was feeling lonely and sought refuge from the world. Palestine House is a place I’ve always felt was missing – an embassy to show that we are real and recognised, represented and rejoiced. “

“I want Palestine House to be a place where we can accumulate all of this pain and sorrow and convert it into strength and beauty. This house is for everyone, everyone is welcome at Palestine House. ‘

“When I travelled to countries like Ireland, Cuba and Jamaica, I heard people were nicknamed ‘Palestinos. I realised many communities that are persecuted and discriminated against use Palestine as their symbol. ‘

‘Palestine House is a place to honour decades of struggle and endurance and a commitment to dignity no matter what the world throws at us.’

Palestine House is managed by a team of British and Palestinian artists, event organisers, entrepreneurs and human rights campaigners.   When the building opens it will also operate as a co- working space for individuals and small teams.
