Edfringe Comedy Review: Plastic Jeezus: Leave them Wanting Less

Full of Facebook humour and unfunny dad jokes, Plastic Jeezus can’t decide whether they want to be good at music or good at comedy, maybe just stick to the music.

A low brow comedy/musical duo, they sing observation based songs that monkeys with access to ChatGPT can come up with in 15 minutes. One was about the writing of a love song, but if all the words were autocorrected. Someone has to tell them that changing the sentence “be my girl”, to “bring my grill” is do deeply unfunny you can’t even muster a pity laugh.

Maybe this is all a misunderstanding, maybe this is high grade camp performance art that is uber ironic and is just lost on me. It’s entirely possible, I mean the people around me are having a good time; but they’re also people whose favourite gas is Argon and I’ve never even heard of it, nor have a favourite gas.

One redeeming factor is that the ukulele playing is impressive, but then again what two grown men even play the ukulele? At least they have each other.

Bluntly, Plastic Jeezus aim to be dark and edgy, but wind up performing songs that may have been funny when internet humour was first created, but now ends up being for 40-year-olds who still have a Nokia and access Facebook on the home computer.
