A camp comedy extravaganza from Will Owen fiercely commands the stage and embodies the title ‘Like, Nobody’s Watching’.
Owen deserves all his flowers in this stand-up, which is filled with non-stop laughs. His smart and witty comedy style keeps the audience hooked throughout, making you want to put your head in your hands at the cringy realization that we’ve all done an embarrassing dance routine to ‘When I Grow Up’ by The Pussycat Dolls with girls we just met on holiday.
Owen’s routines appeal to those of us who would stay off school just to watch Loose Women. He explains his mixed reaction to attending a Loose Women studio taping and accidentally becoming a men’s rights activist.
Classic British telly is an evident staple in Owen’s show, and his material around forcing his family to endure the performances he put on as a child is gold. Owen’s crowd work is also a standout factor. His well-executed and perfectly timed responses are flawless and do not miss a beat. However Owen doesn’t rely on crowd work too much, as the elements involving the audience are an addition to his already high level of talent.
The show is a perfect mix of Gen Z humour and experience without being overly isolating to other audiences. The whimsy of Owen’s jokes captures the common human experience of a time when you didn’t care about being embarrassing.
