Hotel Chocolat has an enviable reputation as a high street go-to for yummy occasion chocolate, so advent calendars are totally in their wheelhouse. I’ve gone for the milk chocolate version here, but they’ve got a variety out this year (White, Unbelievably Vegan, Caramel, Dark) in their classic The Advent Calendar format.
It’s a treat. Both posh and playful, with 40 per cent milk chocolate melting in the mouth, bringing back echoes of childhood chocolate discoveries, and in a variety of fun Christmassy shapes.
The windows, primed for the advent countdown, are scattered around the box out of sequence, prompting that key element of date searching with a keen eye and that vague ridiculous anxiety that today might be missing. Such a relief and a treat when the correct one is spied!
The treat itself is small enough to be that daily sweetness, and rich enough to really be a reward and pre-cursor to Christmas. In a classic milk chocolate formula. Delicieux!
