Edfringe Comedy Review: BeHeMoth: Enter the Cupboard
dolly parton

I walk in and receive a raffle ticket. Immediately, anticipation is high, but so is my confusion. I believe this is the perfect mix of emotions when entering the show BeHeMoth.

A cheery musical number kicks off “Enter the Cupboard”, by literally entering a homely cupboard, where you see the lives of three clowns, Tim, Mo, and Heidi. As roommates in a cupboard, they describe why they are in this living situation through song and choose their outfit of the day with the audience’s help. Still, ultimately, they all end up in colourful jumpsuits which somewhat resemble Alvin and the Chipmunks.

As the song comes to a close, they are interrupted by their scary Ann-Lord, the Landlord, who threatens to evict them by the end of the show unless they can find the Michael-Crystal (I am still unsure if the audience or the cast knows exactly what this crystal is).

In between, mostly Mo’s harrowing journey to find the Michael crystal is mostly mini sketches that alter every few minutes. It’s totally random and totally witty.

At times, the cast seemed to get a little sidetracked or improvised without thinking ahead. However, the material was still wacky and weird – in a good way.

If you were wondering what the raffle ticket was for, I am excited to tell you it was for a raffle!

One thing is for sure: BeHeMoth is undoubtedly its own show, with sketches so random no one could come up with the same. You meet dragons off of Dragon’s Den, passive-aggressive parents, and the sentient black mould. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m happy to say it is mine!

BeHeMoth: Enter the Cupboard 23.15 Just the Tonic, The Mash House, until August 11
