Strolling onto the stage with an energetic intro, Desiree Burch matches that energy with everybody in the room for the entire show. Loud, fast-talking and analytical rants about her life in her mid-40s are hilarious. She goes into every topic under the sun about being a woman, the different generations and…brushing her teeth.

Desiree starts by talking you through her thought process for the different generations. As a Gen X herself, she can only go on her experiences; she stumbled through her points, which seemed to appear as quickly as they vanished, but they must be relatable based on the Gen X whoops from the crowd. I feel very special as she mentions  Gen Z, it’s probably not good for our egos, but she praised us, “I love you guys” and “you have it hard”, followed by the fact that we have been born into a world that’s how Desiree put it is “F*****!” Ego deflated.

One of Desiree’s main points of the show is how hard women have it. She gives a refreshing rant on menopause but also perimenopause, which is “more of a b**** than menopause, nobody warns you for that”. Stating the obvious: Desiree Burch’s stand-up has strong language. Each and every symptom of perimenopause is delivered with the most brilliant analogies, including the club or “the clerb”, as she puts it, dreams of Cleveland airport, and some that stab at the men, due to the mood swings that come with perimenopause; this stab could be literal.

Desiree Burch’s energy is chaotic, funny and powerful. Her energy, and I’m shocked to say, her voice holds up for the entire show. I had an amazing time, even though this hilarious woman listed all the bad things I may experience in the future, I couldn’t help but laugh.

Desiree Burch: The Golden Wrath 17.40, Monkey Barrel Comedy, until August 10
