You’re invited to the former Chief Commissioner of Scotland’s Police ‘book launch’ which is actually a brilliant one-man character sketch show. He isn’t going to apologise for how the state he is leaving Police Scotland in. I’ve not seen Scot Squad which I know he stars in – but I’m assuming it’s the same character.
He talks of the success of his tenure (which isn’t as successful as he might think…) though he stresses he is unable to bring bestiality statistics down. He stumbles through these accomplishments whilst taking no criticism for how these statistics may be perceived.
It’s a very smart and coherent hour you spend with Jack. He commands the stage well as he marches across the stage. We get to hear excerpts of his book which may or may not involve a member of the Royal family taking ketamine. His thoughts on Nicola Sturgeon and his disdain for Hearts of Midlothian. There’s a lot here – especially for a Scottish audience. Literally everyone in attendance chuckling into the next jokes, with the gentleman beside me literally crying of laughter. He pokes fun at the central belt – (there’s nothing worth stealing in Glasgow in comparison to their Edinburgh counterparts).
His crowd work was very funny – using his ‘police eyes’ and ‘police touch’ to determine crimes from the audience. He manages to make someone confess to stealing his book. It adds up to a really tight character-based hour of comedy.
