Edfringe Review: Showstopper! The Improvised Musical

The combined musical and comedic genius of the cast of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical has the audience gripped from start to finish.

The beauty and magic of the show comes from us, the audience, as we are tasked with presenting an environment that can be as weird or wacky as possible. Our audience lands on an Argentinian horse ranch setting, which is then fantastically named by one audience member as ‘Don’t Neigh for Me Argentina’.

From that point forward, it is all systems go for the cast and accompanying band, who create an entirely new musical from that single prompt. Hilarity ensues on stage with people playing horses, a roasting pig on a spit, and the passionate Latin horse whisperer Papa Blanco, played by the impressive Adam Meggido.

The entire storyline flows as seamlessly as any well-rehearsed West End musical, which attests to the wickedly talented cast who are synchronized not only with each other but also with the band, who can uplift their voices at the perfect moment. This makee for an ‘Oklahoma’ style ballad, a ‘Heathers’ inspired song about a cheating husband, and a ‘Wicked’ based feminist anthem.

Of course this improvised musical changes every night depending on the audience suggestions, but it will be a guaranteed good time.

Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, 17.30, Pleasance Courtyard, Until August 26
