Put on your Lululemons, grab your yoga mat and get ready to do Yoga with Jillian. Don’t worry, participation isn’t mandatory, a few brave souls took one for the team and are able to show off their flexibility at the front of the room, following along with Jillian.

Although there is a bit of yoga involved for those interested but, the show follows the neurotic Jillian as she tackles health issues after Covid and a wellness lifestyle that could all be meaningless.

In the past, Jillian explains she had a high paying job and was thoroughly settled. However, when a friend takes her to a yoga retreat to Costa Rica, she catches the bug, eventually quitting her job and teaching yoga classes.

The audience is able to witness Jillian’s slow decent into madness, as she spills her guts about how Covid cost her a job and her health. As Jillian was teaching yoga remotely, she caught Covid and subsequently wasn’t able to teach, leading to an obsession with green juices and almond alternatives galore in hopes of boosting immunity.

Whilst Jillian is telling her story, she still leads the volunteers through various stretches and the more emotional Jillian gets, the more difficult a pose gets as she often forgets and leaves them in the same pose (brain fog side affect from Covid).

This is a great story written by Lia Romeo and performed wonderfully by Michole Biancosino. The structure is extremely well thought out and  presents as a neat little package of theatre. I regret I didn’t go up to get my stretches in at the front of the class.

Yoga with Jillian: Pleasance Courtyard – Above, 10:15, Aug 22-26.
