With a bright and cheery snow scene, soon to be interrupted by the opening of cardboard windows in the countdown to Christmas, Hotel Chocolat’s Up To Snow Good single box advent calendar is a shiny delight. It’s the company’s entry level advent calendar in a range that includes the ambitiously named The Everything Advent Calendar, their Velvetiser Drinking Chocolate Advent Calendar, and the big Daddy of them all – The Grand Advent Calendar, that describes itself as “unapologetically extravagant”. And yet… Up To Snow Good, which in the vegan version is made with nut milk, is no Grinch when it comes to treats.

The unmistakable richness of high end chocolatey flavour melts in the mouth making the single daily window a perfectly measured ration – although moderation is thrown to the wind with Christmas Eve’s quadruple-sized morsel. The nutmilk edition is made up of 45 per cent chocolate, making sure that the high end taste stays even as the dairy element is left behind. That’s some fine alchemy.
