Joz Norris is an absurd genius in his mysterious comedy show, which looks into his personal life (not really) and his life’s works ( not really… I hope).
Joz Norris walks the line between stand up comedy and show comedy. He introduces characters like his wife, not that you ever meet her, as it turns out, she is more of a fed-up ex-wife, Susan. He also spends a good part of the show cracking jokes at the audience as he asks for advice, opinions and who would like to fart into a hoover, it makes sense at the show (it doesn’t).
The whole plot revolves around a box. Just like the movie “Se7en”, all the audience wants to know is what’s in the box! Joz knows this and dances around the reveal of his secret project until the end.
Building up to presenting his life’s work, Joz teaches everyone his lessons like a hippie life coach, fitting as he is dressed head to toe in linens, with a headband reading “ARTIST”. Lessons like “there is nothing wrong with taking your time” are contradicted by others, such as “get on with it”. These messages of wisdom are pre-recorded and spoken from above. The voices from above are a recurring theme in the show. You meet “Twosan”, Susan’s sexy robot replacement, created by the unfazed sort of perverted coder, Carl.
Nearing the end, finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for appears, a glimpse into the madman’s life’s work. Light shines out of the box as the room goes dark, sinister music creeps through the speakers, and then the reveal.
Confused, underwhelmed and somehow impressed is the only way I can describe the monster I saw. If this intrigues you, I encourage you to follow your wacky senses, and get a ticket.
Joz’s creation provokes many emotions in him. The audience witnesses the five stages of grief roughly four or five times during the show. The sudden switch in his demeanour, along with his quick wit, makes for a hilarious show. Joz Norris is one I will be keeping an eye out for at future shows or fringes.
