Welcome to our Entertainment Now WoW Awards for the third week of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Our award for Best Comedy goes to Mark Forward Presents Safari Time, at the Gilded Balloon. The Canadian comic has been picking up lots of new fans at the Fringe and has the best bear related comedy you’ll ever see.
Reviewer Abby Brunnen said in her five-star review: “Mark Forward is extremely silly. He has the imagination of a child with the humour of an adult … his energy is infectious, and the absurd humour fills the room with laughter.”
The second award for Best Theatre goes to When We Were Young at Space on the Royal Mile. Reviewer Jed Bowen described the show in his-five-star review as: “a raw authentic account of working-class youth in Glasgow” and said “The language, bravado and relationships are all a real homage of how it feels to be a ‘bam from a scheme’.”
Our Kids and Family Award this week goes to Mario the Maker Magician at Underbelly, which also received a five star review from Entertainment Now. Nina Aspey, who reviewed the show described it as: “a jam-packed hour of fun” and said: “Mario creates his own world during the hour, with huge props and exaggerated slapstick humour.”
The WoW Awards began in 2023 when Entertainment Now decided it would be a good idea to recognise outstanding shows Week On Week during the Fringe.
During our first year we gave out Entertainment Now Awards, across all genres, at the end of the Fringe. However we thought it would be great to spread a bit of love earlier in the festival and began the weekly WoW Awards the following year.
Outstanding shows are recommended by our team of reviewers.
Congratulations to all our winners and a special thank you to our brilliant team of junior reviewers, who have worked tremendously hard during the Fringe.
