Edfringe Comedy Review: Ed Night: We’ll Be Alright, Darling

Ed Night wastes no time establishing his tone. He walks on stage with a crutch from an accident that happened weeks before the fringe started, and naturally, decides to make it everyone’s problem. The jokes were like something from a television show, particularly his adventures with the disabled toilet while dealing with his injury was delivered with such cheek you can’t help but laugh.

Night has a wonderfully relaxed presence. He wanders around the stage as though he’s having a chat with a few mates rather than performing to a room full of strangers, and that makes the comedy incredibly easy to settle into. Occasionally, he wanders a little too close to the front row, creating exactly the sort of awkwardness that makes the room erupt. “Watch out for my crutch or I’ll be ramming it in your pint” sums up the attitude nicely.

There’s more substance beneath the silliness, too. Night talks about his girlfriend, OCD, depression and the often frustrating way men deal with mental and physical health without becoming heavy. Including a particularly good gag about flying off the Shard. The show feels loose, cheeky and has a swagger to it. Night never seems desperate for the next laugh; he simply strolls towards it, with his crutch in hand and mic in the other, this show is an hour of relaxed, feel-good comedy i would recommend.

Ed Night: We’ll Be Alright, Darling, 16:45 at Monkey Barrel 1 at Monkey Barrel Comedy from August 3-17th – 19-30th
