This hour of comedy is like watching ten different shows in one, a patchwork of different storylines, sketches, and songs take us through the everyday life of the characters and the things they’re going through.
The three actors are , Ben, Callum and Lucy. Each as talented as the next, they pop on and off stage seamlessly – occasionally with a train conductor’s’uniform or mouse ears.
Obviously, this performance starts with someone who has literally just had enough, a young man who is desperately trying to get out of his procrastination loop and make his life better. Every day he wakes up with motivation but every night he makes up excuses why today is not the day to change. Another scene is two workers who stand next to each morning before and after their days at work, and who tend to have very repetitive conversations. While both of these situations seem plain and benign, this group brings a fresh energy to the skits that show that life really is about the little things.
As the show came to an end Ben finished with some poetry, which usually I would find a bit of a drag in a comedy show, however it was inspiring. All of the poems performed were unique and perfectly structured to make the audience laugh but also make them think. For example, one of the poems is called “I Keep Calling the Train Conductor a C**t” which is obviously an interesting name for a poem, but it also delves into the art of stepping back from everyday life and giving yourself a chance to observe for once. Another one of these poems was performed, while Lucy tap danced on a street sign that had been laid down on the floor to make her taps louder which was particularly effective.
This combination of talent is truly a dream come true, but what really made it complete on the day I saw it was the audience, who after the show all sang Happy Birthday to one of the cast.
This is a show that perfectly demonstrates what the Fringe is all about, coming together as a team. And I will never have enough of it.
