The first half gives both performers their own chance to shine. Pop (better known as Penn from the iconic magic duo Penn & Teller) takes to the stage first in his trademark suit. He performed nail biting spin on a classic memory trick that had me covering my eyes at points, and his clever undoing of a traditional rope trick, involving an audience member is light hearted and funny even if it doesn’t get the audience gasping in surprise.
Next comes Piff the Magic Dragon, who proudly announces himself as the “loser” of America’s Got Talent. His silly jokes and dry delivery has the audience in stitches but don’t let the dragon suit fool you, beneath the deadpan comedy is a world class magician whose sleight of hand and creativity are exceptional.
The second half brings the full Piff and Pop experience. It’s chaotic, hilarious, packed with audience interaction and completely unpredictable. The chemistry between the two performers is fantastic, and the show constantly balances sharp comedy with genuinely baffling magic. Fair warning: you may need a strong stomach for the finale!
Showgirl Jade Simone, is a real highlight of the evening. Talented, funny and charismatic, she is far more than just a glamorous presence on stage. Her physicality, comic timing and performance skills make her an essential part of the show.
And of course, the last word has to go to Mr Piffles. He is as adorable as ever, getting huge cheers from the crowd every time he appears.
