Morgan Rees: Bi and Large

Morgan Rees grew up closeted in a small village in Wales, he’s at the Fringe to try and convince people to be whatever they want to be, as long as they are not better looking than him.

“Bi and Large” is Rees’ hilarious homage to his youth, his unique family blend and trying to survive with his teenage brother. It is fair to say his comedy is not observational, relatable humour, as it turns out there is probably no one in the world quite like him.

An enjoyably animated and energetic stage presence, his infectious energy will have you hanging on to every word, and fully backing everything he says. Even if you’re less familiar with the categories “bisexual” or “pansexual” or “queer”, you’ll be laughing your head off and supporting him all the way.

Morgan Rees seems to find himself caught between being confusing to older people and feeling confused by younger people, but he envies how the younger generation are more free to express themselves than he was growing up. His show deals with important social issues; toxic masculinity, feeling as though there’s something wrong with you, the importance of talking to people and expressing your true self. While this sounds like heavy stuff for a comedy show, fear not, a lot of it is explained to the audience via gay sex jokes.

His show is fantastically funny. Full of one-liners, puns, wit, shouting, screaming, jumping, everything hilarious and silly you could want in a standup show. He worries that his family aren’t ready for all the details of how he has been living life as an out bisexual man, so he needs an outlet to talk about it, and that’s where you come in.

The show may be about struggling with your sexuality and learning to accept yourself, but you don’t need to be from that demographic to enjoy the show. After all, I doubt you can relate to having a Nan with a ghost hunting YouTube channel, but it’s still an amazing story for Morgan Rees to tell you.

Morgan Rees: Bi and Large, 18.10, Pleasance Courtyard, August 7-28
