Mark Silcox: I Can Cure [Perfect and Arena-Ready Show] – Review

Mark Silcox is a true comedian’s comedian. His character work is so impressive that the performing doctor is almost indiscernible as a character. His anti-humour style renders you at his ridiculous will.

Silcox has come to give a keynote speech about anything and everything. Naturally, he is concerned with his audience’s health, so he informs you about the nutritional value of chickpeas and eggs – you may even consider skipping lunch before this show. He’s so thoughtful that he was willing to stop his speech for a good amount of time to make sure everyone was properly plenished and hydrated.

His range of topics isn’t limited, the doctor discusses religion, badminton and a long-winded history of the universe from the beginning. This deadpan style is ridiculous, and he takes his time to revel in the absurdity. I’ve never been lectured as to why evolution caused capitalist admin teams in such detail before. His character as the mundane doctor can be so convincing that the monotone voice can genuinely wear you out. But it’s when he leans into his daftness and nearly cracks himself, that the audience are left in hysterics.

Dr. Silcox dons a delightful purple sequin jacket to add pizzazz to his speech and win the crowd over. And he not only demonstrates his knowledge through rhetoric, but he conducts an enthralling science experiment for the crowd. But I must admit it was at this point I started to doubt if Mark Silcox is really a doctor at all.

The time you spend with Silcox is deeply confusing but tremendously funny. His style is by no means everyone’s cup of tea (even if he does give you one) but if you are willing to buy into this nonsensical lecture then you will find him to be a properly hilarious comedian.
