Pierre Novellie: Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things? – Review

When a flaw has been pointed out to you multiple times, from multiple different sources, in both your personal and professional life, it is something worth addressing. At least, that’s what Pierre Novellie thinks.

“Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things?” is the question he has now begun to ask himself. The audiences have been brought in to help, by listening to everything that gets on his nerves more than he thinks it should. Everything from meal deal sandwiches, to the public in general, which should give you some insight into just how many daily occurrences are a struggle for Pierre Novellie.

This show reaches across the entirety of comedy’s silly spectrum, with some high-brow jokes related to the works of the great Victorian writer, Charles Dickens, as well as some low-brow jokes related to farts. The level of intellect you require to enjoy this show seems to be a grey area, which is good, because what he has crafted is a show that everyone can enjoy.

Pierre Novellie’s mild-mannered style of tearing into society’s less charming sides is expertly delivered and absolutely hilarious. Even though audiences probably will not relate to every bone he has to pick, as there are a lot of them, there is something for everyone, in terms of what people find irritating. The disdain he has for what others have deemed socially acceptable is palpable, and the insight he gives into his internal thought process is just as fascinating as it is funny.

As he believes it is not acceptable to name a show with an unanswerable question, you will in fact find out just why Pierre Novellie can’t enjoy things. Even though it may surprise you, there is a carefully designed structure to his bitter venting, and once it is revealed, suddenly his show, and everything in it, makes perfect sense.

Pierre Novellie: Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things? 18.10, Monkey Barrel Comedy, August 18 – 28
