Siân Docksey take us into her mind, and up and down a pole for an hour as we are plunged into her existential crisis.
Docksey got into pole dancing as a stripper but after dropping stripping for the more stable career of standup comedy she couldn’t quite leave the pole behind. Docksey tells tales of pole camp (who even knew such things existed) alongside the struggles of making friends in your 30’s and figuring out who you are and what you want.
With some completely insane stories and jokes, Docksey has a crazily inventive mind, as she combines her stories with pole tricks, pole dancing impressions and even gets the audience involved with some guessing games. She uses this unique style of comedy to her advantage as even as some jokes fell short they were counter acted by her impressive pole skills.
Taking many digs at herself, Docksey shows the realities of being in your 30s. Realising you don’t ever really figure things out and working through existential thoughts of dread and immortality. Docksey’s dark humour hits hard with much of the audience.
Some of the fluidity between jokes in the middle of the show doesn’t quite work and were quite stagnant, losing the audience for moments. At points it was difficult to keep focus as it some stories were running on too long and in the hot stuffy room you could easily zone out. Docksey does however manage to pull the audience back for the ending as she performs a end segment which pulls together the entire show.
