Marjolein Robertson is a charming and excellent storyteller and comedian, in this show she combines both of these talents to create a beautiful, hilarious and heartfelt show. Robertson’s comedy appeals to both the older and younger audience members and she creates a togetherness and a great energy in the venue. Throughout Robertson has the entire crowd in fits of laughter with her crazy experiences, stories, and callbacks.
Marjolein uses her love for her home of Shetland and its folk tales as the bases of her show, snapping in and out from typical comedy bits, back to the storytelling. The well-known folk-tale she uses is ‘The Selkie’ a story of seal like underwater mythological beings who shed their skin and turn into human forms when on land. For most of the show the audience just believe it’s a good way to add a little bit of fun and something special to her show until all is revealed and the reason Robertson relates to this story so much.
The end of this show is so touching and sends a strong message to the crowd. Her journey of growth, healing and learning to love herself is so inspiring and is a testament to her evidently strong character. Robertson perfectly brings the whole show together and although she is speaking of a serious matter she continues to crack jokes and keep everyone entertained.
The passion that Marjolein has for her story and for bringing awareness to the issues brought up in her show is so powerful and magic to be a part of.
