John Hastings: Win the award! Buy the Castle!

Tell us about your show.    Why should we go and see it?

I had a bad year. Nothing to do with covid (how unique). Your classic loads of death year. It’s very funny. Some filth jokes in there. Proper filth too. None of this poo and pee stuff. Seriously It’s my best hour of stand up comedy and I have been very good since 2018. It smoked it in Melbourne International Comedy Festival and got 4 stars in Chortle (a web site no comedian reads, ask them them they will tell you) so come along and leave money in the bucket.

Are you flying solo or are you part of a team?

Solo bolo. I used to work with a director but he quite rather selfishly died earlier this year. So it’s pure unfiltered Hastings. (Which sounds like I have the audience drink my pee)

What are your hopes and dreams for the Fringe?

Win the award! Buy the Castle!

What makes you laugh?

Jimmy McGhie is quite a funny boy. I also look at the interest rates and have a giggle (a giggle also known as a ‘chortle’ where my show received 4 stars already so let’s cut the shit buy a ticket)

What is it that made you a performer?

Ten years doing nothing but comedy from 2006-2016, theatre school, ritualistic vicious bullying at school and a LOVE OF THE STAGE (jazz hands)

How will your audience think/feel differently after an hour in your company?

I think they will be far more aware of the sci-fi aspects of my various reproductive organs. Also guarnteed two to three laughs bro bro.

Whose show – apart from your own – are you looking forward to seeing at the Edinburgh Fringe?

Laura Davis, Ben Target ,Adele Cliff, Alfie Brown, Larry Dean, Mickey Overman,Emmanuel Sonubi. Mark Nelson

also do not see Daniel Sloss he’s doing a work in progress which I think we can all agree is cheating.

What’s the most useful piece of advice you’ve been given?

Just focus on stand up – Alex hall

Don’t get high on your own supply – Pope John Paul 2nd

Do you have a favourite Fringe memory?

A guy rushed the stage the first time I did Late N Live. The crowd chanted ‘cunt’ at him while I dragged him off stage.  It was wild security could not get to him. It was  chaos until he was finally chucked out.   I had five minutes left. His girlfriend came back with drinks. She tried to rush the stage. The chants repeated and she was also ejected.

Who is your showbiz/Fringe idol and why.

Kate Copstick? I honestly don’t know! Covid let’s be honest blew up my goals and ambitious plans. It was a fire in my life in a lot of ways. I have come out the other side and honestly I could give a fuck about the other stuff in this job. I just want to go in for lack of a better description “perfect place to get omnicron” style rooms with me and listen to the jokes I have written over a year. I don’t know who my idol would be. Maybe it’s me. I worship me. I am Jesus?
