Mary Goggin: Don’t take yourself so god-damned seriously

Mary Goggin

Tell us about your show. Why should we go and see it?

My show is called: Runaway Princess: A Hopeful Tale of Heroin, Hooking and Happiness.

Well, maybe you should not see my show. It isn’t for everyone. The honesty is unflinching. You might be uncomfortable with trauma as humour. Your world view may change forever..
To judge or stigmatize going forward…..you are screwed.

You will never forget it. It will move you and change you. You shall say to yourself “that Mary Goggin is the most interesting person at the fringe”.

You will never look at an addicted homeless prostitute in the same way.

Are you flying solo or are you part of a team?

I am a force of nature. A One woman, Celtic Goddess.
Writer/ Producer and Performer

What are your hopes and dreams for the Fringe?

To bring my story, my mission to a global level . check
To empower women to share their secrets by sharing mine. Permission granted to say who they are; to raise their voice, raise awareness and to meet like-minded powerful women everywhere.

What makes you laugh?

Irreverence.

What is it that made you a performer?

I always have been an artist. Its who I am, not what I do. Thing is, I didn’t know that until I quit drinking. Some nun on a retreat asked me if I was an actress. No one had ever said that to me. I realized I could be whoever I want to be. I won a scholarship to the Marymount Manhattan College and have worked on stage as well as film and television since 1999.

How will your audience think/feel differently after an hour in your company?

They will know that we are human . That we are all the same.

Whose show – apart from your own – are you looking forward to seeing at the Edinburgh Fringe?

Brave sex talking women (they scare the shit out of me after my life?)
Tiger Woman, fierce adventurous woman. Butchered, my love of irreverence. To be honest, I need to sit down and read through the programme properly.

What’s the most useful piece of advice you’ve been given?

“Don’t take yourself so god-damned seriously”

Do you have a favorite Fringe memory?

Yes, Last night’s passionately salacious, intensely real podcast with “S laughter ed” with Kate Copstick.
Then waking up from a dream that I found a cat in my kitchen cupboard ..breathing, barely alive.

Who is your showbiz/Fringe idol and why.

I’ll go for Phoebe. She took it all the way and returned home.
