Myra DuBois takes the Edinburgh stage like the saint she is to help her adoring fans with all their life problems. Assisted by her sister Rose and a celebrity guest, Dubois is the Agony Aunt you never knew you needed.
Dubois struts onto the stage with all the glitz and glamour as she sings her own entrance song, demanding the attention of the audience (both figuratively and literally). Her stand up set is crass and cheeky which purely leads to rolling thunderous laughter and applause. She’s bold, outlandish and uncensored as she discusses positive reinforcement while throwing chocolates and snide remarks at the crowd.
Dubois then sits down in her aptly leopard printed chairs and begins to look at problems submitted by the audience. These range from being too fabulous to despising the in-laws but Dubois has a solution to them all. She’s incredibly quick-witted, managing to innovate unfaltering comedy gold for every issue. Her responses are hilariously judgemental and abrasive to the point that Dubois is not even capable of a compliment without a backhand. You need a bit of thick skin, but if you’re willing to take her words on the chin, then you will absolutely adore Dubois’ advice, she is a self-proclaimed empath after all.
The supporting cast of this show (even though it definitely is all about Dubois) are simply sensational. Myra’s sister, Rose Lavender, finally gets her big break in showbiz and special celebrity guest, Bianca Del Rio (!!!) talks mindfulness before also helping the crowd with their woes.
‘Myra Dubois’ A Problem Shared’ is a wonderful therapy session with all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect from this queen. You may not leave feeling all your issues have been magically healed but there is no doubt you’ll feel better after an hour of side-splitting comedy in the presence of greatness.
