Sam Nicoresti: Cancel Anti Wokeflake Snow Culture

This show is a piece of highbrow comedy that is often disguised as quite the opposite. There is no doubt in my mind that Nicoresti is an incredibly intelligent and politically switched-on person which has led to the creation of this massively entertaining and scathing look at the world, even when it comes across as a bit silly. ‘Cancel Anti Wokeflake Snow Culture’ discusses gender and mocks the people who take afront to it even being a discussion. People like Ben Shapiro, Piers Morgan and especially Jordan Peterson, those that have garnered a cult-like following thanks to the internet.

The format of this show is intriguing and fresh. On the one hand Nicoresti performs traditional stand up. Their eloquent way with words details their life through lockdown and the identity struggles that followed. Their slightly awkward demeanour combined with hard hitting, well-written lines are the recipe for room-rumbling laughter. They also use their platform to make their points about gender identity and why them wearing a skirt really isn’t a big deal.

Conversely, the audience watches a live taping of Nicoresti’s fictitious character, who is the product of these internet self-help, rightward leaning, cult heroes. In these sections, Nicoresti’s phenomenal grasp of satire and irony are a hilarious takedown of this strange subculture. The host is a cancelled idiot who has no sense of moral justice and is the perfect hyperbole of the awful white straight man.

The visuals that compliment this show go from a hilariously idiotic podcast guest to some otherworldly psychedelic scenes. The production of these videos is top-notch and there are scenes of truly beautiful cinematography. Nicoresti labelled their own show daft, but I don’t agree, I think it is the basis of a truly excellent piece of work and I am excited to see where this comedian goes.

I cannot say that Nicoresti’s work is for everyone, but I genuinely think if this sounds like your thing you must go see it. I would adore to see Nicoresti get a massive budget TV show and see what their gloriously creative and wacky mind could create.
