Playing out of the Fringe’s most magic appropriate venue, the Palais du Variete, “The Greatest Magic Show” provides excellent tricks, jokes and drama for the youngest members of the Fringe audiences.
If you have come to the Fringe for a fun, family show, this is the show to see. The Ringmaster has travelled across the globe to find the world’s greatest magic show, and with the help of his malfunctioning magicians, Sam and Justin, they attempt to keep their show on track. Hilarity, naturally, ensues.
The performance is very much geared towards children, so much so that you will struggle to keep them in their seats. Some are invited up on stage to help Sam and Justin with their magic tricks, hopefully before the Ringmaster finds out about all the commotion. The participation with the children makes the show more entertaining for everyone, as they take their mystical responsibilities very seriously, seriously enough to make the magicians break character with a quick laugh.
“The Greatest Magic Show” is well-produced with great sound, lighting, props and tricks. It is the tricks especially that leave the children transfixed, as well as the bouncy, vibrant, holiday rep personalities of the travelling wizards who have visited them.
The show is very entertaining. The setting is perfect for the type of performance, the magicians are very upbeat and obviously passionate about the work that they do, and one of the goals of the show is to get kids to believe in their dreams. There are very few kids shows today with this level of production value and genuine, vested interest in teaching positive life lessons that can be carried through into adulthood.
If you have brought your family with you then your kids will love this show. However, it’ll be on you when they ask you to help them with their magic tricks every day for weeks.
